Eyes on the Lord

I keep my eyes always on the LORD. With Him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
— PSALM 16:8 (NIV)

My teenage daughter is learning to drive. (Pray for me!) One of the many lessons we are teaching her is to keep her eyes on the road. We passed an accident one day on the highway. She turned to see what happened in which I instructed her, “Keep your eyes on the road.” She responded with, “What if I need to know what happened over there?” I said, “You can use your peripheral vision to note if you can assist, but maintaining your focus on the road lessens the chances of you becoming the next accident.”

We are bearing witness to many spiritual accidents. Mass shootings, mass incarcerations, mass political bickering and mass division within the body of Christ that causes us to take our eyes off the Lord and try to assist in these matters without using our spiritual peripheral vision. When we keep our eyes on the Lord, with Him at our right hand, we will not be shaken by what surrounds us. We will be able to call upon Him and He will answer and show us great and mighty things we do not know. It is only then will we be able to solve the great problems of today. It is only then we will be able to usher peace back into our homes, communities, schools and places of business. And it all starts with keeping our eyes on the Lord.
