The List

Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD.
— LEVITICUS 19:18 (NIV)

I have this thing called “The List.” You don’t want to make “The List.” If you do, that means I don’t have anything to do with you, you don’t exist to me, I don’t talk to you, and/or you couldn’t ask me for anything. To get on “The List” you would have had to do something wrong by me. It didn’t take much for your name to get on “The List,” but once you made it, you were there for the long haul. Unfortunately, today, “The List” still exist, I must admit, but as I grow more and more with God the shorter it becomes.

I use to think having a list of people I didn’t fool with was good protection for me, but it came to a point where I found myself trying to remember why I was upset with this person or what that person did to make me mad. I realize these negative thoughts take up too much real estate in my mind, heart and spirit. So today, if you too have a list, join with me today in destroying “The List.” Jesus doesn’t want me or you to seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among our people, but to love our neighbor as ourselves. We have to replace the ill thoughts we harbor with forgiveness. How many times should we forgive someone? Scripture says, “Seventy times seven.” If me and you can do this, that would put an end to The List and free us in ways we’d never imagine.

Forgive to be forgiven

Heavenly Father, I choose today to get rid of The List. Instead of seeking revenge or holding grudges, I will love my neighbor as myself. Forgive me, Father, for my sin. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
