Pump Your Brakes

And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.
— COLOSSIANS 3:23 – 24 (NIV)

Those that know me know that I can have a bit of a lead foot at times. On my drive to work, there’s a two to three mile stretch of the highway that goes through a small town. The speed limit drops from 55 mph to 35 mph. Normally, I’d maintain my speed except for the fact that I know “The Boys” (Michigan State Police) set speed traps frequently in this area causing me to pump my brakes and slow down.

I know I’m not the only one that slows down when they see The Boys, but when was the last time we pumped our brakes for God? Is a speeding ticket more important than breaking God’s heart? God wants us to love one another, consider one another, forgive one another and support one another, but there are still people on our “list” that we don’t mess with, don’t talk to and can’t forgive. Scripture says whatever we do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men. So, the next time the flesh tries to override the spirit, let’s pump our brakes, slow down and remember whatever we do we do it for God.

Slow down for God

Heavenly Father, I’m not going to give into my fleshly desires. Whatever I do, I’m going to do it heartily for You and not to men. I claim my reward of inheritance as I serve You. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
