Thinking of Others

For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.
— ROMANS 12:3 (NIV)

Everybody has something going on in life. Sometimes we forget that because we often become so self-absorbed thinking we’re the only ones facing problems or going through a valley. We ignore the cries of help from others because we’re thinking more highly of ourselves and not thinking of others. We forget Christ called us to help carry the burden of others and pray fervently for those in needs, because when the time comes to pray we pray for our needs and ourselves most of the time.

You may have lost your job, but someone else lost a loved one. You may be dealing with raising a lazy teen, but someone else is raising a teen with a drug addiction. You may be dealing with a spouse that doesn’t communicate enough, but someone else is dealing with a spouse that communicates too much with their fist. Not to say your problem isn’t a problem or to ignore them, but do not think of yourself more highly than you ought. Your blessing and relief can be discovered when you think of others and think of yourself less and with sober judgment. God’s grace will always cover you and will always be sufficient, so take time to think of others and give them a lift.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your grace that is always sufficient and carries me through. Give me the courage to think of others and the ability to bless them in their time of need. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
