The Good Example

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
— MICAH 6:8 (NIV)

Everyone needs a good example to follow. As children, we normally pattern ourselves after our first teachers: our parents. As parents – bless our hearts - we try to lead by example. We teach our children be honest and truthful, but as soon as a telemarketer calls we say, “Tell them I ain’t here!” The model “Do as I say, not as I do” comes to mind. We can only lean so much on those around us to be good examples of how we should live. After all, nobody is perfect… except for One…

GOD has given us The Good Example in His Son, Jesus, of how to live. Christ is the true example of how to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with and before GOD. The world made quite the cliché out of the catchphrase “What Would Jesus Do,” but if we actually modeled our actions behind this thought process our world could be a much better place. We would treat people justly. We would offer mercy and forgiveness to one another. We would humble ourselves and witness GOD heal our nation. It’s great to have an example in front of us to admire or pattern ourselves after, but don’t forget, we may have to look up to witness the best example GOD has given us.

Heavenly Father, thank You for showing me what is good by the example of Your Son, Jesus Christ. I will consider what Christ would do in all my actions. I will act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with You. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
