PARENTS DO UNDERSTAND

No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.
— HEBREWS 12:11 (NIV)

Raising kids isn’t always easy. There are so many choices to make. What to say, what not to say. Raise them how you were raised or implement new ideas from that self-help book you read. (You turned out OK, right?) Give them what they want or give them what they need. It’s so much to consider, but one thing you should never compromise is training them up according to what God says and wants.

Your children, nieces, nephews, grands and cousins won’t like to hear the word no. They may not understand why you’re guiding them and parenting them the way you are, but just remember that no discipline seems pleasant at the time. It’s uncomfortable for them and you alike. It can be painful, it can be stressful, but remain steadfast to God’s word and remember that later on godly discipline produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. And, you won’t always see immediate results. You may not always hear “Thank you” right away or feel appreciated. Just know you are planting a seed and when it grows and matures it will yield a harvest pleasing to Christ.

Train them up!

Heavenly Father, give me the strength and endurance to train my children according to Your will and way. Through the pain of disciplining my child, comfort us by Your spirit. I claim You harvest of righteousness and peace of my child right now. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
