What's In An Image?

Then God said, ‘Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.’
— GENESIS 1:26 (NIV)

Over the weekend, I had an opportunity to watch “The Carter Effect” on Netflix. It was a documentary about one of my favorite NBA dunkers, Vince Carter. A player named Dell Curry was a teammate of Vince’s while playing for the Toronto Raptors. Dell allowed his son to attend practices and shoot around. A reporter asked the young child if he ever wanted to play in the NBA? The child said, “Yes. I’m going to be like my dad.” This child grew up to be NBA Champion and MVP Steph Curry.

Steph spent time with his father. He learned from his father and mimicked him. His father became the image that would inspire his future aspirations and motivate him to reach and obtain his personal goals. Your Heavenly Father created you in His image. Have you spent time with Your Heavenly Father? Have you learned from Him? Mimicked Him? Have you noticed how He loves unconditionally? Have you noticed how no problem is too big for Him? Have you seen how He continues to forgive? How He provides? How He sacrifices? How He gives? This, and so much more, is the image in which you were created! God created you to rule over everything He created. He made you holy as He is holy. Spend time with your Heavenly Father and make it your goal to become more like Him every day.

Heavenly Father, thank You for creating me in Your image. You created me to rule. I choose to rule over hate, depression, anxiety, and anything not of You. I choose to love like You, forgive like You, and live like You. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
