The Big Payback

Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.
— 1 PETER 3:9 (NIV)

There was a time when people didn’t air their dirty laundry. When loved ones had disagreements, it was kept among those involved. Now, social media has given every issue, big or small, a megaphone to announce who fighting who, who wronged who, who’s hating on who and how they’re going to pay them back for their deeds. Even journalism and news reporting has sunken to citing Twitter feeds as sources and amplifies the evil and insults spewed by our nation’s leaders, government officials and celebrities alike. And even though this is becoming commonplace, we as believers must continue to be examples for the world to see.

When someone speaks evil against you or insults you, don’t seek to repay evil with evil or insult with insult. Instead of figuring out how you’re going to get revenge or pay them back, remember GOD’s payback. Counter evil and insults with blessings so that you may inherit GOD’s big payback of blessings. When they go low, you go high. Only love can drive out hate. When you repay evil with evil, you sink to the enemy’s level. You can’t stop or control others from insulting you, but you are always in complete control of yourself. You always have a choice. Make sure it’s the right one.
