Who Can You Control?

For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age.
— TITUS 2:11 – 12 (NIV)

As much as it bothers you, it doesn’t matter what they say to you. As much as it hurts you, it doesn’t matter what they do to you. What does matter is what you say to them and what you do to them. The only person you have complete control over in this life is you. The only person you can change is you. You can point someone to Christ, you can heavily influence some people, you may even be considered a change agent, but you cannot change people or control their words or actions.

One way to invoke change is through your godly example and visible self-control. When you say no to things not of God and the evils of this world that surround us, people will notice and want to change their lives, but no one will want to follow your lead if you’re always stressed out, depressed, or clappin’ back at people. So try not to stress yourself when others act a complete fool around you. Let them witness your self-control and watch God bring about the change.
