Forever A Student

Teach me, O LORD, the way of Your statutes, and I shall keep it to the end. Give me understanding, and I shall keep Your law; indeed, I shall observe it with my whole heart.
— PSALM 119:33 - 34 (NKJV)

In 2007, Nola Ochs graduated from Fort Hays State University with a general studies degree with an emphasis on history. She started taking classes at a community college after her husband of 39 years, Vernon, died in 1972. Yes. You read that right. Nola was 95 years old when she received her degree and broke the Guinness World Records for being the world’s oldest college graduate.  When doing an interview with NBC News, she said, "I don't dwell on my age. It might limit what I can do. As long as I have my mind and health, it's just a number."

No matter how long you’ve lived or how many things you have experienced in life, God can always teach you something new. You can read a known bible passage today, that God will give you a different understanding of while reading the same passage next month. Open your heart and mind and allow God to teach you His statutes. Pray for understanding constantly to gain wisdom and the strength to remain obedient to God’s law. You’re never too old to learn. God is doing a new thing and He wants you to know it. Don’t place limits on what God can show you.

Heavenly Father, teach me, O LORD, the way of Your statutes, and I shall keep it to the end. Give me understanding, and I shall keep Your law; indeed, I shall observe it with my whole heart. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
