Walk the Walk

Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
— EPHESIANS 5:1 -2 (NIV)

I admit, I don’t always feel like doing “the right thing.” Somedays, I’d rather take a nap instead of going to bible study. I’d rather listen and watch someone else do the evangelizing. One of my favorite Hip Hop artist, MosDef, once said, “Sometimes I don’t want to be a soldier. Sometimes I just want to be a man.” But then I realize that my blessing is in my sacrifice and walking in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave of Himself.

I’m pretty sure it wasn’t easy for God to sacrifice His only Son for our sins, but He did it. Jesus had a moment where He didn’t want to bear His cross, but He did it. There are many opportunities we pass up on that may bless us or show others Christ’s love. They may seem difficult or make us uncomfortable, but that’s when Jesus can use us most. When we walk the walk, we walk right out of our comfort zones and are forced to rely on God’s strength. In doing so, we follow God’s example, and like Christ, offer ourselves as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God and become blessed because of it.

Heavenly Father, I choose to follow Your example today as Your child. I will walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved me and gave Himself up for me as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
