It Takes Effort

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
— 2 CORINTHIANS 10:5 (NIV)

Sometimes it takes different experiences to realize we need to make change in our lives. We go through the same situations constantly. We end up with the same type of people or problems in our lives. We practice unhealthy habits that lead nowhere. It can almost seem as though these unfavorable lifestyles are engrained in our DNA, but that’s not the case. Just like it took effort to learn how to steal without getting caught, how to roll the perfect blunt, how to work the system, or tell good lies, it’s going to take the same effort to undo them.

When you’re making change in your life for the better, it’s not always easy and it may take time, but you can do it. Just remember you’re not fighting against people or inanimate objects. You’re fighting against demonic spirits that are encouraging you to cuss that person out, to smoke that blunt, to cheat on your taxes, and lie to your loved ones. You have to use spiritual words and actions to be victorious in spiritual warfare. Don’t “quit cold turkey.” Demolish that bad habit! Don’t just stop lying to people. Take dominion over your being and take captive your words! Make not only your actions obedient to God, but your thoughts too. Be patient with yourself and diligent in your faith. Your change is coming, but it takes effort.
