Don't Forget To Pray

Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.
— COLOSSIANS 4:2 (NIV)

Prayer is a very powerful tool that often goes underestimated. There’s always been separation of state and church, but in my lifetime, I’ve seen prayer taken out of schools, and have become witness to some churches that don’t have weekly prayer services. Jesus emphatically said His house ought to be called a house of prayer, not a house of choir rehearsal, dancing and shouting, or a weekly community meeting place. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with the aforementioned, but it’s imperative we not forget the main purpose. Prayer.

Scripture says to devote yourself to prayer, being both watchful and thankful. When you’re watchful, you understand the plight of your community and know what’s needed to pray for. When you have purpose in your communication with God, it is then He can equip you with great and mighty things you do not know in order to heal your community of its conditions. When you pray, thank God as well, knowing what you pray for is already done. You may not be reminded by the media, people, or even sadly to say, the church, but Jesus wants to talk to you and has a lot to tell you. Don’t forget to pray by making it your lifestyle and not leaving your destiny up to chance or the universe. Devote yourself to prayer and believe God will answer.

Heavenly Father, I make the choice today to devote myself to prayer. I will be watchful and forever thankful. Thank You for hearing me and for answering me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
