So Much More

You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
— MATTHEW 5:13 (NIV)

Salt has numerous usages today and could be considered a necessity of life long ago. Back in the day, salt was used in many cultures as a seasoning, a preservative, a disinfectant, a component of ceremonial offerings, and as a unit of exchange. When salt became useless and was no longer able to be used as intended, it was scattered about the ground and walkways to produce roads for people to walk on.
