Love Is...

Love is...
— 1 CORINTHIANS 13:4-7 (NIV)

The words “I love you,” is a personal sentiment used to express one of the deepest emotions an individual can share with another person. Its use over the years can at times water down its true meaning. Love can be misused when explaining how you feel about your favorite food, your car, house, or job. People often say how they fell in love with a dress or love their favorite TV show. It can leave you wondering what love really means.

Love is patient and love is kind. Love does not envy, does not boast, and it is not proud. Love does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, and love keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres. Jesus wants you to love one another, as you love yourself. Your love for others shouldn’t allow you to keep records of wrong, or be easily angered, but to be kind and patient. Christ wants love to be shared among people, not things that can’t love you back.

Heavenly Father, thank You for showing us true love through Your Son, Jesus. I will not invest my love in things that can’t love me back, but I will love others as You have loved me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
