Letting Go

Away from me, you evildoers, that I may keep the commands of my God!
— PSALM 119:115 (NIV)

One of my favorite R&B groups from the 90s had it right. “It’s so hard to say goodbye to yesterday,” but sometimes, it’s necessary. It’s not easy to let go of friendships you’ve had for years. It’s hard letting go of loved ones and people who were part of your family, but Jesus says it this way; “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers? … whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”

A lesson I instill in my children when choosing friends is a real friend will not ask you to do anything that goes against what I teach you at home. When trying to live life pleasing to God, be careful of those that challenge the path Christ has for you. When God allows people into your life, “Praise God.” When some leave your life, “Hallelujah Jesus!” And when they choose to leave because you’re trying to do better in life, don’t feel compelled to stop them. If God wants them in your life, I’m sure He can figure out a way to make them stay without your help. Sometimes, it’s just God’s way of saying they’ve served their purpose in your life and now it’s time for you to move on. Just remember, no relationship is worth sacrificing your relationship with Christ.

Let go. Move on. It’s ok.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the people You’ve placed in my life and taken out of it. My relationship with You is most important to me. I will keep Your commands daily and give You all the praise! In Jesus’ name. Amen.
