Who's Left to Help?

And it became such a sharp disagreement that they separated from one another...
— Acts 15:39 (AMP)

There’s a common misconception about how Christians should interact with sinners. Some will use scripture that says, “He who is without sin, cast the first stone,” while others take the approach of you shouldn’t “Stand in the way of sinners.” The fact of the matter is we have all sinned; the only difference is that some of our sins haven’t been made public yet.

Jesus said, “What good is light from a candle if you hide it under a basket?” If we as Christians continue to shun and not associate with those who have made mistakes, who’s going to be left to support or help them find their way back? If we are truly fitly joined together, does that only apply when the birds are chirping and the sun is shining in someone’s life, or does it apply too when a fellow believer really needs your help when they’ve fallen short? Pope Francis recently said, “If you want to build a wall you're not a real Christian. Real Christians build bridges, not walls.” Jesus spent His life building bridges, not putting walls between Him and sinners. What are you building?

Heavenly Father, thank You for teaching me how to love and treat others the same. I will build bridges and show others the way back to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
