Sunday's Best

Do not judge, or you too will be judged.
— Matthew 7:1 (NIV)

This week, I read an article about a celebrity Christian couple promoting their book about celibacy. During the Q&A session, a person from the audience commented on a revealing outfit the female celebrity once garnered on a magazine cover and asked, “Now that you’re walking the walk, you’re going to cover up, right?” The audience booed her as the guest began to cry. After watching the video and reading the article, I thought to myself, “People still say and do this in church?”

The author closed her article by saying, “It’s always a great day when you go to church, only to get judged by someone.” As Christians, we have to change this way of thinking. Jesus accepted people in their current state knowing His word would change them. I have personally experienced how when you love people with the love of Christ, “the pants get pulled up and the skirts get longer” opposed to giving people the side-eye or speaking to them “in love.” At church tomorrow, I challenge you to seek out someone who’s not traditionally dressed and let them know they are welcome at your church. Your “Sunday’s Best” isn’t what you wear, but what you give to others.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the example You’ve given us in Your son, Jesus, who accepted everyone as they were. Help me to do the same and love the same. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
