Whatever You Put Into It

So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
— MATTHEW 7:12 (NIV)

I was catching up with an old college friend and he was telling me how he didn’t really enjoy his college experience. He said there was nothing to do on campus, the city was too small, and he was often bored. I, on the other hand, enjoyed my collegiate career, joined and presided over many social and professional organizations, and pledged the greatest fraternity on earth. It amazed me how different our experiences were. One could say our experiences were what we made them. If you invest positive energy into a situation, it’s more likely you’ll have a positive outcome.

The same idea can be applied to your relationship with people. Whatever you put into your relationships with people, you’re likely to be returned the same favor. As a believer, don’t fall into the mold of hate, racism, or bias, but rather treat others the way you want to be treated. Dr. Martin Luther King said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” If you’re experiencing darkness or hate in your relationships, try pouring out the light and love Christ placed in you.

Give and I’ll give it back to you

Heavenly Father, in everything, I will do to others what I want them to do to me. Whatever I put into this world, You will return it to me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
