Watch Your...Heart

May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.
— PSALM 19:14 (NIV)

Scripture says, “Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.” So, instead of watching our mouths, maybe we should be watching our hearts. It’s funny Christ didn’t say, “Out of the abundance of the brain…” After all, that’s where most of our thinking is manufactured, right? But Jesus knows, if the mind manufacturers the thought, it’s because the heart generated it.

Your inner most passionate feelings are of the heart and are very difficult to hide. This is why Jesus always sought to change hearts instead of the minds. The words you use to express yourself reflect what’s in your heart. If you hold fear in your heart, it’s likely you’ll speak in doubt. If hate is in there, your sentences are likely to start with, “I don’t like…” If you have hidden God’s word in your heart, your words will be of love and be pleasing in the sight of the Lord. Make an effort today to speak kindly and using words of affirmation. You’ll feel a change on the inside that will soon be noticed on the outside.
