An Advocate

My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.
— 1 JOHN 2:1 (NIV)

By definition, an advocate is someone who publicly supports or recommends a particular cause or policy. They are people who help others in situations that can’t defend or help themselves. Advocates assist those that would otherwise be passed over or forgotten due to their current state and possibly not receive equal or alike benefits afforded to others. In most cases, with the help of the advocate, the mistreatment or injustice intended is reversed and the once voiceless is now heard.

You too have an advocate; Jesus Christ. He was sent to die for your sin, as well as the sin of the world, so that we may have a relationship with God. Christ is the best advocate you could have on your side. No matter your sin, which family member disowned you, or how many friends left you, Jesus still prays to God on your behalf and is willing to forgive you. He’s also willing to release all the benefits of being joint heir with Him while others forget about you or pass over you. When you sin, go to your advocate. He’ll hear your voice when others don’t.
