What's In Your Hand?

So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him.
— 1 SAMUEL 17:50 (NIV)

It’s well known that you can’t defeat evil with evil. If you’ve been to bible study a few times, you know it’s not flesh and blood we struggle against, but the powers of this dark world and spiritual forces of evil. As believers, we’re not powerless, right? So what weapon are we to use while innocent, unarmed people are being killed? What forces have we to fight the war on drugs and violence plaguing our communities? The increasing high school dropout rate? Domestic violence? Divorce? The weapon God birthed you with. Your gift.

When David defeated Goliath, he used the weapon he was most efficient with. It was a weapon that he’d used over and over again. You too have a gift to defeat evil. If your gift is to teach, teach to defeat evil. If your gift is to write, promote love through your writings.  If your gift is speaking, make your oratorical presentations exhort God’s goodness. The ideas and weapons of the world won’t defeat evil. God placed the power to defeat evil in your hand.
