Building Confidence

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.
— 1 John 5:14 – 15 (NIV)

I love bowling, so it was only fitting that I introduce the sport to my children. During their first lessons, they wanted to achieve in 30 minutes the skillset I had gained from bowling over 20 years! Even now, they wonder how I know I’ll get a strike before the ball even hits the pins. I tell them, “I’ve been doing this a lot longer than you.” I know that when I release my ball a certain way and with a certain speed, I will get a strike almost guaranteed. I have this confidence because I’ve thrown my ball over and over again and gotten the results I desired. That’s why I can celebrate my strike even before the ball meets the pins.

Our prayer life with Christ is similar. When we release a prayer request to God and it aligns with His will, He hears us—guaranteed. Confidence is established and increases each time we commune with Christ through prayer and witness Him answer whatever we ask of Him. But if you don’t get a strike the first time, be patient and remember it takes time and practice. Soon you’ll be celebrating the answers to your prayer requests as soon as you release them!

Oh, yeah! He’s listening.

Heavenly Father, I thank You for allowing me to come to You through Your son Jesus Christ. I know when I pray Your will You hear me and will bless me with whatever I ask in Your name. I walk today knowing it’s already done and I thank You! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
