Locate Your Nearest Exit

"The Lord's Prayer" Series - Day 8

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one...
— Matthew 6:13a (NIV)

My job required me to travel frequently. I would fly from one destination to the next. I’ve heard the stewardess safety announcement so many times I could probably conduct it myself. One part that always stood out to me is when they say, “Take a moment to locate your nearest exit. In case of emergency lights will illuminate your path, and guide you to an exit.” Thank God I’ve never had to use an exit, but I always pause what I’m doing to draw an imaginary dotted line in my mind to my nearest exit. You just never know…

In life you will need to be able locate your nearest exit when tempted of things not pleasing to God. Jesus will always provide a way for you to escape temptation. You just have to pause what you’re doing to locate your exit. The Apostle Paul says, “The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, He will show you a way out so that you can endure.” Pause what you’re doing today, and prepare by studying His word daily so in the case of an emergency, your nearest exit will be easy to locate.

God is faithful

Heavenly Father, thank You for not leading me into temptation and delivering me from evil. I know you have a way for me to escape and endure when I am tempted. Thank You for being faithful. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
