The Rock

Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.
— MATTHEW 16:18 (NLT)

For a long time I thought I had to go to church to pray. I thought I had to go to church in order to worship God. Through bible study and biblical leadership, I learned that the body of believers meet and fellowship at the church building to pray, worship and serve together, but I actually am the church. The people are the church. And as the church, prayer, worship, and service can take place anywhere at any time wherever I am.

In Matthew, Jesus talks about building His church on a rock. That means you are planted on a strong and firm foundation. You can’t be easily torn down or destroyed. And Jesus doesn’t stop there. He says that all the powers of hell will not conquer His church. So, if you are the church, that means not even hell can conquer you! Issues in your relationship? Conquered. Financial problems? Conquered. Health struggles? Conquered. Your name may not be Peter, but you are the rock! You’re bold. You’re strong. You’re able. The powers of hell cannot conquer you.

Bold. Strong. Able.

Heavenly Father, I am Your church, built on a rock. Not even all the powers of hell can conquer me! I am called by You. I am created by You. I am loved by You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
