Shun Evil

The wise fear the LORD and shun evil, but a fool is hotheaded and yet feels secure. A quick-tempered person does foolish things, and the one who devises evil schemes is hated.
— PROVERBS 14:16 – 17 (NIV)

Back in the day when a bully wanted to fight, they would place a stick on their shoulder and dare another child to knock it off. Knocking the stick off would force the child to engage the bully in fisticuffs after the bully provoked the act. It was a dare often egged on by onlooking instigators. The bully wants to fight but can’t until the other takes the first step. The evil plan was created by the bully, but it will fail if the child simply walks away.

Sad to say not much has changed today. Bullies are still walking around with sticks on their shoulders provoking you to knock them off. While it is so tempting to knock that stick off because of all the hatred, stress and pain today’s bully inflicts, God wants you to shun evil. Walk away. Don’t do anything foolish or something you will regret. Remember the temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, God will show you a way out so that you can endure. Shun evil. Walk away.

Heavenly Father, I really would like to fight the enemy at his own game, but this battle is not mine. It is Yours, Lord. Thank You for giving me Your wisdom and the ability to shun evil. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
