Connections

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
— HEBREWS 10:24 - 25 (NIV)

Have you noticed more and more people are finding more and more reasons not to attend church? I’m sure you’re familiar with some of the reasons. They can range anywhere from the service being too long or the ability to watch church on the internet to the church being a fashion show or all they do is ask for more money. It’s not like back in the day when you knew you were going to church every Sunday because momma said, “We going.” Nowadays it’s momma telling the kids “Go back to sleep. We’ll go next week.”

We have to realize attending church is not about the perceived fashion show or how many times the offering plate is passed, but it’s about God’s way of establishing connections between believers. Christ wants us to consider one another in love and good deeds. He wants us to encourage one another and stir up the spiritual gifts in fellow believers. Sure, you may already have it all together, but that’s more reason for you to make connections with others to help them get it together. God wants to bless you and it’s often He uses others to get those blessings to you. Forget about what the pastor ain’t doing, what church folk said, and how long service is. (It’s not any longer than that superhero movie you sat through.) Instead, focus on making connections and releasing God’s blessings over your life, the lives of others, and your community.

Heavenly Father, I will consider others and express Your love toward them and good deeds. I will attend worship services regularly and encourage other believers as You have commanded. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
