A Father's List

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
— 3 JOHN 1:4 (NIV)

As a father there are so many life lessons on The List to remember to teach our children. Lessons can extend from teaching them to make eye contact when speaking to others while giving a firm handshake, to looking both ways before crossing the street. Friends. Right from wrong. Sex. Money. Drugs. I’m becoming overwhelmed just thinking about the possibility of missing an important life lesson! Thankfully, there’s one lesson as fathers we can teach that will address every topic and even those we fail to remember—a personal relationship with Jesus.

Fathers. Teach your children the importance of having a relationship with Jesus. Tell them what Christ did for you and the whole world. Teach them how to pray, when to pray, and what to pray for. Explain to them what grace and mercy are and why it is important to obey God in all things. Teaching your child the latest dance or catch phrase is fun. Making sure they wear the trendiest clothes and know stats from the NBA finals is cool. But there is no greater joy than to know your child knows Jesus and walks in truth!

Happy Father’s Day!

Heavenly Father, thank You for blessing me with the ability to teach my child about You. I will tell them about You and guide them on the path to walk in truth forever. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
