City Under Siege

Praise be to the LORD, for he showed me the wonders of His love when I was in a city under siege.
— Psalm 31:21 (NIV)

My children often complain about going to school and doing chores. I tell them to enjoy their childhood because in the blink of an eye they’ll be adults with real life responsibilities. Since they haven’t experienced adulthood yet, they’re still convinced being an adult is easier. They don’t know how I feel inadequate as a parent when I can’t fix their social problems. They don’t know how I miss the stroke of my mother’s hand on my head that made it easier to face tomorrow. They don’t realize as an adult I still experience the heartache of abandonment and trails of loneliness left by people I once called friend.

I’m old enough to know I don’t have all the answers, but I have grown wise enough to know I can rely on God’s love to guide me through it. It is by His love I find hope for tomorrow and realize trouble don’t last always. I have a God that will love me through my imperfections and never leave me in my time of need. And the beauty of it all is you do too.
