Control Yourself

Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’
— Genesis 1:26 (NKJV)

When God created you, He created you in His image and gave you dominion. He gave you dominion over the fish that populate our oceans, the birds that soar above our heads, the millions of cattle that walk the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. But there’s one thing God left off this extensive list. Man.

God did not create you to control others. You can encourage, advise, and influence others, but He did not create you to control other people. When you attempt to do so, it adds frustration and pain to your life or the lives of others. God wants you to lead people in a manner that will introduce Christ into their lives, but it’s not your job to change them. Only God can change someone and when you can control yourself, you allow others to see the Christ in you.

Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me dominion over the things of the earth. I know You didn’t call me to control or change people, but to lead them to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
