Leave the Classroom

That day when evening came, Jesus said to His disciples, ‘Let us go over to the other side.’
— MARK 4:35 (NIV)

In Mark chapter four, you’ll find Jesus at a lake teaching using parables. He’s teaching the importance of spreading the Word to others by sowing and planting seeds, forgiveness, faith, and the need of sharing their light in a dark world. Once evening came, Jesus said, “Let us go over to the other side.” On the other side was a test for the disciples. The scripture shows Jesus was asleep in their boat as a storm tested them with treacherous winds and swamping waves. It seems as if they forgot everything they were just taught moments ago.

When you cross over to the other side and leave the classroom, do you forget everything you were just taught? After you’ve sang songs in the church’s sanctuary about “The Jesus in me, loves the Jesus in you,” do you show others Christ’s love? After a sermon addressing forgiveness, do you immediately forgive others or hold tight and true to your grudges? Do you leave prayer service praying for others? Do you leave bible studying forgetting who God says you are? What you learn in the classroom is important, but what’s equally important is what you do with what you’ve learned when you leave the classroom. As a believer, be prepared to be tested, immediately, concerning what God has taught and revealed in you. The test is to strengthen your faith, not break it.

Always an open book test

Heavenly Father, Your word is more than a song or a well preached sermon, but a way of life. Holy Spirit guide my heart and control my tongue as I am tested. Help me to show the world who You are through my actions outside of the classroom. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
— This is my prayer
