Use Your Words

He sent out His word and healed them; He rescued them from the grave.
— Psalm 107:20 (NIV)

When parents are teaching their children to talk, you’ll often hear them say, “Now, use your words.” It’s a lesson taught at a certain age—when they need something from their dad or mom, crying for it is no longer acceptable. When a child is hungry or not able to reach their favorite toy, for example, the parent won’t spring into action until the child speaks using the words he or she have been taught.

God is like this as well. The words God uses command action and cause things to change. He sent His word to heal you, rescue you, and comfort you. You have this same power. Through scripture, Jesus has taught you the words we ought to use in our daily living. When you use God’s word in your life and speak them over your situations, things have to change. You no longer have to cry and accept things as they are. Use your words and speak to your issues using what Christ has taught you.

Decree a thing

Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your word to heal me and rescue me from the grave. I know I have the same power to change things for the better when I speak Your word into my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
— This is my prayer
